Arc Raiders Quests and How to Finish Them Without Dying
Surviving the surface in Arc Raiders is less about how fast you can pull a trigger and more about how well you handle the tasks handed down from the vendors in Speranza. Quests are the lifeblood of progression, acting as the primary vehicle for unlocking blueprints, expanding your stash, and earning the currency needed to survive increasingly hostile drops. As of the current meta, the quest system has evolved into a complex web of logistics, combat, and environmental puzzle-solving that requires a strategic approach rather than just brute force.
The fundamental structure of missions
Quests in this world aren't just checklists; they are the narrative and mechanical backbone of your character's growth. There are currently over 60 distinct missions distributed among five primary NPCs. Each NPC focuses on a specific aspect of the Raider experience. Understanding who to prioritize can significantly change your early-game efficiency.
- Shani (Security & Combat): Her tasks usually involve direct confrontation with Arc machines or securing vital infrastructure. Completing her line is essential for weapon blueprints and basic tactical gear.
- Celeste (Trade & Lore): Her quests often lean toward scavenging and recovery. If you are looking to optimize your crafting economy, her missions provide the necessary recipes and components.
- Tian Wen (Tactical Intel): These missions are for the Raiders who want better weapon attachments and advanced combat utility. Expect a lot of sabotage and high-risk infiltration.
- Lance (Medical & Research): Focuses on healing items and biological research. High-tier health kits and stimulants are locked behind his progression.
- Apollo (Mobility & Utility): If you want to move faster or reach higher ground, Apollo’s questline is where you’ll find zip lines and specialized traversal tools.
Early game priorities: getting established
When you first step into the Topside, the initial set of quests from Shani and Celeste serves as a tutorial for the harsh realities of the environment. Missions like Picking Up the Pieces and Trash into Treasure might seem mundane, but they establish the fundamental loop of "Loot, Survive, Exfiltrate."
In Picking Up the Pieces, the objective is simply to visit areas with loot icons and search containers. However, the nuance lies in which areas you choose. For new Raiders, sticking to the outskirts of the Buried City is often safer than heading straight for the industrial zones. Containers in residential ruins tend to be less guarded by Arc drones, allowing for a quieter completion.
Trash into Treasure asks for wires and batteries. While these can be found randomly, many experienced players suggest checking the basements of electronics stores in the urban sectors. If luck isn't on your side, some of these items can actually be purchased from traders, though using your hard-earned coins this early is generally not recommended unless you are one item away from completion.
Navigating the mid-game: Shani’s combat trials
Once the basics are covered, the difficulty spikes. Shani’s mid-tier quests like The Trifecta and Clearer Skies require you to hunt specific Arc types.
The Trifecta is often a roadblock for many. You need to destroy a Wasp, a Hornet, and a Snitch, then deliver their specific drivers or scanners.
- Wasps are common but can swarm. Using high-velocity rounds helps pick them off before they close the distance.
- Hornets are more aggressive and mobile. It is often helpful to use environmental cover or a light shield to weather their initial burst before counterattacking.
- Snitches are the real problem. They don't fight back directly but will call in massive reinforcements if not dealt with quickly. Silenced weapons or a high-damage single shot are the preferred methods for neutralizing them before they can alert the hive.
Clearer Skies involves gathering Arc Alloy. This resource drops from almost all Arc enemies, but larger machines like Harvesters or Barons have a much higher drop rate. For a solo player, farming smaller drones is safer, but if you are in a squad, taking down a lone Harvester in the Dam Battlegrounds is a much faster way to satisfy the requirement.
Lance’s medical mysteries and survival
Lance’s missions, such as Medical Merchandise and Doctor’s Orders, often send players into the most claustrophobic and dangerous parts of the map: hospitals and pharmacies.
In Medical Merchandise, you are tasked with searching containers in the Spaceport departure building's exam rooms, the hospital in the Buried City, and the medical room in the Dam’s Research building. These areas are notorious for "ratting"—other players waiting in corners to ambush looters.
- The Buried City Hospital: This is a multi-floor nightmare. Most veterans suggest entering through the roof or a side window rather than the main lobby. The containers are usually in the intensive care units.
- Spaceport Departure: This area is wide open and prone to sniper fire. Bringing a smoke grenade or a pulse mine to cover your back while searching containers is a sound tactical choice.
Completing Lance’s line is arguably one of the most important things you can do for your long-term survival. The ability to craft high-tier Adrenaline Shots and Sterilized Bandages significantly reduces the downtime between firefights.
High-stakes intel: Tian Wen’s sabotage missions
Tian Wen’s quests, such as Industrial Espionage and Market Correction, move away from simple looting and into the realm of tactical interference.
In Industrial Espionage, you have to locate a weapon cache near a gas station in the outskirts and "bug" a rival cache. This is a multi-step process that requires you to carry a specific quest item (the Burletta) in your inventory. Remember that if you die while carrying quest-specific items that aren't in your safe pocket, you will likely have to restart the objective.
Market Correction involves tampering with caches near Marano Station. This area is frequently patrolled by Arc Surveyors. These massive floating machines have a blue searchlight; if you get caught in it, they will expose their core and begin a heavy barrage. The trick is to wait until the Surveyor is stationary and looking away before moving between the cover points near the station.
Map-specific strategies for quest completion
Each of the three primary zones—Dam Battlegrounds, Buried City, and Spaceport—has a different "feel" and requires different preparations for questing.
The Dam Battlegrounds
This zone is characterized by wide-open marshes and verticality around the dam itself. Quests like Our Presence Up There require you to climb the Pattern House and flip power switches. The danger here isn't just Arcs; it's the lack of cover. When doing quests in the Dam, long-range optics are a necessity. You need to scout the ridge lines for other Raiders before committing to a climb.
The Buried City
This is dense, urban combat. Quests like A Reveal in Ruins (finding an ESR analyzer in pharmacies) take place in tight interiors. Shotguns and SMGs shine here. The Buried City also has a lot of verticality through ruined skyscrapers. Some quest items, like the ones in the Back on Top mission, require you to reach specific rooftops that are only accessible via certain stairwells or zip lines.
The Spaceport
This area is a mix of massive hangars and open tarmacs. It feels the most "industrial." Missions here, such as A Lay of the Land, often involve navigating the Control Towers. These towers are hotspots for high-tier loot, meaning you will almost certainly run into other squads. Efficiency is key: get in, grab the shipping notes or scanners, and get out. Many Raiders find that using the tunnels beneath the spaceport is a safer, albeit slower, way to move between quest objectives.
Handling the most difficult "Stuck" points
There are a few quests that the community consistently finds difficult due to their RNG (Random Number Generation) nature or hidden objectives.
1. Greasing Her Palms: This quest asks you to visit three very specific, hidden locations across all three maps.
- Dam: You need a Dam Surveillance Key. Without this key, you cannot enter the locked room in the water treatment building. These keys drop from Elite Arcs or can occasionally be found in jackets.
- Spaceport: The rocket thrusters outside the assembly building are easy to find, but "scoping them out" requires you to stand in a very specific, exposed spot for several seconds.
- Buried City: Floor 6 of the Space Travel building. This requires a lot of stair climbing and clearing out drones on every floor.
2. Dormant Barons: This quest requires you to loot a Baron Husk. Barons are the massive, crab-like machines that act as world bosses. Finding a "husk" means finding one that has already been destroyed or was part of the map's static scenery. You have to climb on top and "breach" it. The danger here is that breaching often triggers a fire hazard or a local alarm. Most players suggest breaching and immediately jumping off, waiting for the animation to finish from a distance.
3. Eyes in the Sky: Installing Lidar scanners on high-profile landmarks (like the Galleria sign or the Communications Tower). These are extremely exposed positions. The best advice is to attempt these during "Arc Storms" when visibility is low for other players, or to have a teammate stay on the ground to provide overwatch.
Tactical tips for quest efficiency
To make your questing life easier, consider the following environmental and mechanical advantages:
- The Safe Pocket: Use it for quest items that are hard to find. If you find a rare battery cell or a specific keycard, put it in there immediately. Even if you die, you keep the item, and for many quests, just having the item in your inventory upon extraction (or even just picking it up) counts as progress.
- The Surrender Mechanic: If you are playing with friends, you can trade items by placing them in your safe pocket, entering a match, and then using the "surrender" option in the settings. This allows players to help each other finish collection quests like Doctor's Orders much faster.
- Team Completion: Almost all quest objectives are shared. If your teammate destroys a Wasp for The Trifecta, it counts for you too, provided you are within a reasonable distance. Splitting up to cover different parts of a building can speed up search quests, but it makes you vulnerable to other Raider squads.
- The Codex: Check your player stats under Raider > Codex. It tracks your total quests completed and can sometimes give you hints on where certain enemies are more likely to spawn.
The long-term value of questing
Why bother with all 60+ quests? Beyond the immediate rewards of ammo and bandages, the late-game quests unlock the Blueprint Tiers. High-end weapons like the Hull Cracker or the Anvil III are locked behind deep progression in Shani’s and Tian Wen’s lines. Furthermore, stash expansions—arguably the most valuable upgrade in the game—are often tied to completing specific milestones for Celeste.
By the time you reach the 2026 content updates, the quest rewards also include specialized "Charms" and "Outfits" that signify your veteran status. The Radio Renegade outfit or the Burger Boy charm aren't just cosmetic; they tell other Raiders that you've survived the worst the Topside has to offer.
Final thoughts on the grind
Questing in Arc Raiders is a marathon, not a sprint. The world is designed to be punishing, and you will likely die with quest items in your bag more than once. The most successful Raiders are those who don't rush. They enter a match with one specific goal—maybe just to find the Lidar scanner in the Spaceport—and they make that their priority.
Avoid the temptation to "just check one more crate" if you have already fulfilled a quest objective. The hardest part of any quest isn't finding the item or killing the machine; it's making it to the extraction point while the rest of the world is trying to take what’s yours. Use the terrain, trust your squad, and keep your eyes on the sky. The Arcs are always watching, but with the right plan, you can turn their tech into your treasure.
